I <3 NY: A Nolita Adventure

Since the pandemic hit, I have been making my way to Manhattan less and less (I live and work in Brooklyn, NY). If I do head over, I'm usually on a mission to visit an art gallery, meet a friend for coffee, or run errands. I was starting to worry. When will I be able to wander how I used to?

Yesterday, I decided to head to Nolita without a plan. I wanted to walk around the city and explore a little. Like the old days of taking the train, stopping by a few new spots, and enjoying the adventure.

If you know me in real life you know that I love matcha. I discovered green tea when I was around thirteen years old when my parents met some friends at a Japanese restaurant. I ordered green tea ice cream that day and became a bit obsessed. The flavor of matcha will always be one of my favorites, the earthiness of it- try it paired with red bean paste and it gets even better.

Matchaful - 217 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012

We first stopped by Matchaful, a cute small matcha bar with healthy treats, yummy matcha, and a cute facade. I have many dietary restrictions due to health reasons. No sugary treats or "sweet matcha" anymore. The matcha here has no added sugar (I'm looking at you Starbucks!). Did you know that Starbuck's grande matcha latte has a whopping 28 grams of sugar?

I also purchased some delicious raw bite energy balls. They were just what I needed, clean ingredients, and no added sugars.

Ingredients: Hemp seed, goji berries, shredded coconut, cacao powder, ashwagandha, date, coconut oil, vanilla extract, cinnamon | Toppings: Bee pollen / matcha, coconut* / cacao

McNally Jackson Books - 52 Prince St, New York, NY 10012

I sipped on my matcha outside one of my favorite independent bookstores in the area. Then I headed inside, it was such a great feeling. It had been too long! They have a cute cafe inside, it used to be one of my favorite meeting points with friends. It was always our "planning" spot right before we would head out to enjoy the city.

Elizabeth Street Garden -  Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012

If you have ever been to Elizabeth Street Garden then you know that it is made popular by its array of garden sculptures. These tend to be grey, copper, and not very colorful. We found this bench and had to snap a photo. We kinda matched a little, right?

New York City is a special place and my favorite city in the world. I hope I'll be able to enjoy more of these types of adventures. We New Yorkers tend to overwork ourselves, and sometimes we really need a moment to stop and enjoy the beautiful city around us!
